Overview

We are proud to host an event dedicated to celebrating the contributions of Black and Asian nursing colleagues in social care and promoting a culture of connection, inclusion, and empowerment. This event is more than a celebration, it’s an opportunity to share experiences, overcome challenges, and create solutions that strengthen our sector.

Why this event matters

Challenges such as discrimination and incivility can impact professionals in social care, but together we can create change. Through open conversations and shared stories, this event aims to highlight positive examples of peer support, mentoring, and allyship, practical strategies that make a real difference. Your insights will also help shape national conversations, as we share key findings with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

What to expect

  • Panel discussions to explore what would help global majority nurses be better supported in adult social care.
  • Practical tips to respond to discrimination and building a connections culture.
  • Practical tips to invest in yourself.

CPD learning outcomes

  • Personal Development: Grow your network, make meaningful connections, and explore potential mentor/mentee relationships.

  • Professional Development: Enhance leadership skills, contribute to team development, and share good practice and solutions at a national level.

A message from Deborah Sturdy

I am delighted to be attending the first face to face meeting of the Global Majority Nursing network and meeting Black and Asian registered nurses and nursing associates.

Our social care nursing workforce is wonderfully diverse with 54% of registered nurses coming from Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic communities all working to deliver high quality care for people drawing on care and support.

The network is bringing together NMC registered nurses and nursing associates working in the sector who are from Black and Asian communities to offer peer support but also to support us all either as ally's or with lived experience to make nursing in social care an environment that embraces equality, diversity and inclusion.

This connections event will also mobilise a group of people who are invested in the changes needed to support the sector to have a different approach and we need members of the network to take this opportunity and be ambitious for how we grow this voice and identity in the sector.

If you are a Black or Asian NMC registered nurse or nursing associate working in social care please sign up to the network and be part of the voice of social care nursing.
